Presentation synopsis
Presented by Phil Jackson (Evacuation Consultant, CoveKinloch, 029 520 9587)
Phil Jackson is the FPA Evacuation Special Interest Group Chairperson. His presentation synopsis:

For complex buildings it is necessary to consider the operational use of the building early in the design stage. Consideration needs be given to how we evacuate occupants to a place of safety in the event of an unplanned event at any given time. Building designs that only consider the minimum building code fire requirements, whilst achieving code compliance may not meet the needs of the occupants or building management sufficient to enable prompt, and efficient evacuation of the building’s occupants in the event of a fire.

Buildings that rely on a level of management to facilitate evacuation will also benefit from input during the design stages to ensure that the design provides for the needs of those expected to manage an evacuation, this will also help owners and developers meet the requirements of the Fire and Emergency New Zealand (Fire Safety, Evacuation Procedures, and Evacuation Schemes) Regulations 2018.
